Artist's Palette is located on the east side of Death Valley and a few miles north of Badwater on the Artist's Drive road. The volcanic and sedimentary rocks of Artist's Palette have different colors like purples and greens that forms this colorful landscape. These colors are caused by the oxidation of different metals. Red, pink and yellow is from iron salts, green is from decomposing tuff-derived mica, and manganese produces the purple.
