Cathedral Marie-Reine-du-Monde Montreal is a monumental stone building with a copper roof. It is the 3rd largest in Quebec (after St-Joseph Oratory and the Basilica Ste-Anne de Beaupré). Built from 1870 to 1894, it was originally dedicated to St-Jacques and rededicated in 1955 to Mary Queen of the World, by Pope Pius XII.
Neo-Renaissance dome monumental, Archdiocesan this church is the small scale of St Peter's in Rome. The facade is decorated with 13 sculptures reminding patrons of 13 parishes in Montreal.
The interior is richly decorated with frescoes and other works of art. The masterful piece recalling St. Peter's is none other than his neo-baroque canopy covered with gold leaf: wink than Bernini!
